Why is life insurance important?

Life insurance can help provide financial support for the people who depend on you if you die during the policy term.

What does life insurance cover?

Understanding your policy clearly is essential. Here's what is and isn't included in a standard life insurance policy.

What's Usually Covered

  • You're covered for most life events
  • Lump-sum payment if you die during the policy term
  • Terminal illness benefit if you're diagnosed with less than 12 months to live, subject to your policy terms

What's Not Covered

  • Life insurance isn't a savings account and doesn't invest in stocks or shares
  • No payout if your death results from an excluded activity within the first 12 months of the policy term
  • You must survive at least 10 days after diagnosis to claim

Everything you need to know about life insurance.

How much does Life Insurance cost?

Prices for £100,000 of cover start from £5 per month, and £6.07 for a £250,000 sum assured. Level and decreasing cover options are available, subject to eligibility and underwriting.

How much Life Insurance do I need?

The amount of cover you need depends on your mortgage, debts, regular outgoings and the financial support your family may require.

What does Life Insurance cover?

Life insurance can provide a lump-sum payment if you die during the policy term, subject to the terms, conditions and exclusions of your policy.

Should I choose single or joint life insurance?

A single policy covers one person and can pay out once if they die during the policy term. A joint policy covers two people but usually pays out only once, on the first death. The right option depends on your circumstances, budget and whether each person needs separate cover.

Can I get Life Insurance if I have a pre-existing medical condition?

Cover may still be available, but eligibility and price depend on the condition and the insurer's underwriting decision.
